Microsoft-owned software collaboration site

GitHub is closing all of its locations,

 including its San Francisco headquarters,

and laying off up to 10% of its staff.

This wave of layoffs in the technology industry,

 which CEO Thomas Dohmke announced

to the company's staff on Thursday,

will start immediately and go through the end

of GitHub's fiscal year on June 30.

 The message also mentioned further

"budgetary realignments"

and a gradual transition to a wholly remote organisation.
